Use of elevator instruments when luxating and extracting teeth in dentistry: clinical techniques

Extraction forceps are used along with elevators to extract teeth. Each extraction forcep is designed for a particular area of the mouth. The beaks are designed to fit around the cervical portion of the tooth. Pointed beaks are designed to grip the furcation area. Elongated beak is designed for extraction of maxillary third molars and roots.

In dentistry, elevator instruments are used to luxate teeth, and this technique imparts forces to tooth particles that sever the periodontal ligament around tooth roots inside the socket and expand alveolar bone around tooth particles. These effects can result in extraction of the tooth particles or facilitate systematic forceps extraction of the tooth particles. This article presents basic oral surgery techniques for applying elevators to luxate teeth. Determination of the optimal luxation technique requires understanding of the functions of the straight elevator and the Cryer elevator, the concept of purchase points, how the design elements of elevator working ends and tips influence the functionality of an elevator, application of forces to tooth particles, sectioning teeth at furcations, and bone removal to facilitate luxation. The effectiveness of tooth particle luxation is influenced by elevator tip shape and size, the magnitude and the vectors of forces applied to the tooth particle by the tip, and sectioning and bone removal within the operating field. Controlled extraction procedures are facilitated by a dental operating microscope or the magnification of binocular surgical loupes telescopes, combined with co-axial illumination. Elevators are used to impart luxation forces to tooth particles, which facilitate severing the periodontal ligament, that connects tooth particles with the surrounding alveolar bone, along the surface areas of tooth particle roots 1 , 2 , 3.

Atraumatic dental extraction preserves bone, gingival architecture, and allows for the option of future or immediate dental implant placement. A number of tools and techniques have been proposed for minimally invasive tooth removal such as physics forceps. The biomechanical design of physics forceps decreases the incidence of root fracture, and maintains the buccal bone plate, which is essential for the proper healing of an immediately placed dental implant. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of physics forceps versus conventional forceps in simple dental extraction. The selected patients were randomly allocated into two groups: group I: included patients, in this group extraction was done using physics forceps, and group II: included patients, in this group extraction was done using conventional forceps. Physics forceps are innovative extraction instruments.

A dental surgery contains instruments and equipment of various shapes, sizes and functions. Extract with confidence and luxate atraumatically. Dentures Art Dentures. Extraction forceps are hinged and used to remove teeth in one piece with the crown and root intact. On average late and senile people tend to turn to the dentist for tooth extraction and prosthetics. The tools most commonly used during routine examinations are Mouth Mirrors These small mirrors are used during treatment to allow the dentist to: A examine the mouth and teeth for cavities or tissue abnormalities B retracting the patients tongue and cheeks to give the dentist a clearer … If the image of dental tools conjures fear of visiting the dentist, the idea of facing a tooth extraction might be particularly nerve wracking. An overview of the process, especially of the tooth extraction tools your dentist will use, and how they're used, may help to quell your nerves and prepare you for your next appointment.

Always use our fulcrum pads with the additional usage of gauze while extracting the anterior teeth for added protection. Warning: use gauze on lower lingual with power elevators. Make certain that the fulcrum pad is always set as close to 3. Remember that this atraumatic means of extraction takes time 30 to 60 seconds for the PDL to break. As with any hand piece lubrication is necessary.
